CAP: The Continuous Assessment Platform

Dr. Kevin Gary, an Associate Professor and Program Chair for the School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering has a research opening for FURI, Honors Research students, online students, and volunteer students regarding CAP: The Continuous Assessment Platform. 

The Continuous Assessment Platform (CAP) is a suite of integrated web tools that support an agile approach to education. The CAP provides for an ability to continuously assess and provide formative and summative feedback in software development courses. The integrated tools are written in cutting-edge technologies like NodeJS, Mongo, SpringMVC, MySql, and R. I am looking to extend the tools through additional assessment algorithms, tool integrations (we integrate with APIs including Slack, GitHub, and Taiga), and advanced deployment concepts (cloud, microservices, and containers).

  • The primary qualification is motivation. I prefer students looking to sustain an effort over a period of time through independent studies, FURIs, and honor’s theses. I teach my students a lot about coding practices and expect them to work independently from an individual perspective but also within a team in my lab. My lab is at the Poly campus, and students will be given access to physical lab space and computing environments.
