A New Photovoltaic System for Solar Charging of Electrical Vehicles

, ,

Vehicle electrification has been proposed to mitigate carbon emission from transportation. However, the environmental benefit of electric vehicles is questionable if they are charged from the electric grid, as grid electricity comes largely from fossil fuels. Solar charging of electric vehicles makes an environmental sense, but suffers from high cost and intermittency. We need your help to develop a new photovoltaic system specifically for charging electric vehicles. The system promises an efficiency approaching 100% and a 25% lower cost for solar electricity than conventional photovoltaic systems. Electrical engineering major preferred and hands-on knowledge in power electronics a definite plus.”
